Who doesn't know da Vinci

The title, first applied in the 17th century, indicates that she's the daughter or wife of an ironmonger, but could also be an indirect reference to her being a mistress of Francis I of France, who was married to a man named Le Ferron. The model has been identified as Lucretia Crivelli, or maybe Cecelia Gallerani, or perhaps Beatrice d'Este....you see where this is going.

The attribution is also wobbly it's unsigned, and some have attributed it to Bernardino de'Conti or Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio.

Anyway...whoever she is, it's her expression that haunts. Is she being sultry Angry Tired It's an interesting choice for a portrait, perhaps just as intriguing as Mona Lisa/s vague amusement.

Over the spring and summer, I undertook the task of painting the portraits of the six construction men who lost their lives in the Key Bridge collapse of March 26, 2024. How could I ignore a subject like this! Here I am at the Baltimore Museum of Industry with lovely art prints done by Noelle Imparato, after recording a testimonial and donating the prints to their archives for an upcoming exhibition.
